Our Story

Kosher Meats

Shaevitz Kosher Market was started on the west side of Chicago in 1910 by four brothers, Samuel, Mendell, Michel, and Shlamie Shaevitz. During the late 1930ís the brothers had several meat markets in Chicago dedicated to serve the Jewish public. There were hundreds of Kosher Markets in the city at that time. In the early 1950ís Label, Samuelís son moved the store to Devon Avenue, a Jewish area in Chicago. For forty years your Mothers, Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers relied on Labelís expertise and quality products.

The family business is now operated by Labelís son Michael and son-in-law David. We have been located in Highland Park, a north shore suburb of Chicago since 1983. Shaevitz Kosher has stood the test of time and remains one of the very few original Chicago area markets. Twelve years ago, we added Now Weíre Cookín Grill, a carry-out and catering restaurant with a small, but cozy seating area. It has become a popular place where many local people come to enjoy everything from authentic barbeque to traditional cuisine. All dishes are made to order with our freshest cuts of meat from our own market. We also have a Kosher Sausage Kitchen on the premises. All our sausage is hand crafted in small batches and is the same old fashioned quality and taste as in the past. Our salami is still made the original way with a string, so that you can hang it up and air dry it to harden.

Our greatest desire is to continue bringing you the same high standards as generations before have enjoyed. The Shaevitz Family thanks you for your loyalty for the last hundred years. To our old friends and new friends, we are now able to ship you our delicious products anywhere in the United States.

We look forward to serving you in the future!
